Tatweer wa Nahda’s initiative to establish a tire recycling workshop in Deir Samit is attracting attention! The team’s work, and especially the beautiful park created by Felasteen Alyamani with the support of the Tatweer women’s association is an example of how recycling and well being can go hand in hand.
The idea emerged from the reality experienced by inhabitants locally as they suffer from the pollution caused by the burning and dumping of damaged tires. Interested in alternatives and ways to embellish the area, Tatweer wa Nahda attended trainings in Nablus and began producing benches and outdoor seats, decorative planters and swings. Their imagination grew to design a full playground and lounge.

This work complements the work Tatweer wa Nahda is conducting to document contamination and assess health impacts. It is generating income opportunities for women and improved environments, two key missions of the association.
The idea to transform tires and set up a women-led workshop was developed by Tatweer wa Nahda, which then sought funding for it. It obtained the support of a grant from the Environmental and Climate Justice Programme in Palestine (ECJP) implemented by the Palestinian Agricultural Institutions Coalition (PAIC) in partnership with We Effect Organization and the Palestinian Environmental NGOs Network (PENGON) and funded by the Consulate General
of Sweden in Jerusalem.
And because one media coverage is simply not enough to exhaust the creativity of Felasteen and the Tatweer team, you can find another one here 👇 with an English subtitled version below 😉
